John Davis. John
Davis is standing as the Independent candidate for the state seat of Orange. He's
the current Mayor of the Orange City Council and spent 10 years as the Mayor of
the Blayney Shire Council. Mr Davis' involvement in local government spans more
than 20 years with both the Blayney and Orange Councils. He
is also the Chairperson of CENTROC, which involves 13 western councils from Lithgow
to Condobolin. John is also a board member of the Central West Catchment Management
Authority, Chairman of the Radiotherapy Alliance and Deputy Chairperson of the
Association of Mine Related Councils and has
a lengthy involvement in local sport and community groups through various sponsorships. John
Davis says his proudest achievements on Blayney Council are: -
Playing a role in bringing the Newcrest Mine to the region. Mr Davis played a
vital part in the planning, development and community consultation of the multi-billion
dollar development.
- The
development of Centrepoint: a covered, heated pool in Blayney with courts, gym
and meeting rooms.
-
Connecting sewerage to Millthorpe, after 40 years of lobbying by residents.
During
his time on the Orange City Council, John cites the following as his main achievements. -
Negotiating with NSW Health Minister John Hatzistergos and Federal Health Minister
Tony Abbott to ensure a radiotherapy unit is included in the development of a
new regional hospital in Orange to serve the Central West.
-
The approval of the $12 - $15 million sports complex, aquatic centre, museum and
civic centre upgrades.
Mr
Davis is running as an Independent because the Nationals are taking Orange for
granted after holding the seat for 60 years. John believes an Independent will
have more power to liase with the government of the day than someone in Opposition.
With a track
record that speaks for itself and enthusiasm and dedication second to none, John
is determined to ensure the people of the Mid Western, Cabonne and Wellington
Shires as well as Orange City council areas are heard in Macquarie Street. He
will fight for more police in the west, better access to health facilities and
improved transport infrastructure. John says more adequate drought assistance
is needed for our struggling farmers. The issue of access to water needs to be
addressed. Mr Davis is passionate about ensuring the proposed radiotherapy unit
for the new western hospital in Orange becomes a reality. John has also committed
to fight for passenger rail services from Lithgow to Gulgong. John
believes a more concerted effort needs to be made to attract families and workers
to the bush through increased first homeowner grants and reduced payroll tax. "If
an issue is important enough for someone to tell me about it, I'll fight for it
in State Parliament. "Together, we'll get things done," Mr Davis said. John
Davis has run John Davis Motors since 1983. The business incorporates John Davis
Mazda, which has won the Mazda Master Dealer for the last five years. It is one
of the top 15 Mazda dealers in Australia. John is married to Kay and has three
adult children and a newborn granddaughter. He grew up in Orange and attended
Orange Public and Orange High schools. |
